Stephanie Kolar, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) working with couples and individuals with any variety of issues.
I have been providing counseling, mental health and Employee Assistance services for over 20 years. I have my bachelors degree in psychology and my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of California and National University. I have been licensed as a Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia for 22 years.
Currently I provide assessment and outpatient therapy services to individual adults and couples. Therapy services are provided for a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma recovery, women’s issues, men’s issues, domestic violence, stress management, short term therapy, work/life balance, parenting, grief recovery, Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder, couples counseling including pre-marital counseling, and marriage counseling.
I use a variety of theoretical approaches in my counseling practice to suit the needs of my client. Some approaches that I find most helpful are Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, client centered approaches, and behavior modification.
I became interested in the field of Psychology after taking a high school Psychology class and was intrigued by the science of behavior and the possibility of change through a variety of therapeutic approaches. In college I was lucky enough to experience the field before entering it while working as an administrative assistant in an outpatient counseling practice while supporting my undergraduate studies. Through this experience, I was able to talk to a variety of clinicians and see the inner workings of a practice, and see the change in people over time.
I believe in the power of change in people’s lives when given the opportunity to be guided in more realistic and functional ways. Change is never easy, but with the right guidance, motivation, practice and persistence, most things can be accomplished. I see my role as a guide to improving your life and dealing with the challenges you face in creative, and positive ways.
